Welcome to the netINS
Showcase. As a contributor, you may use 20 megabytes of disk space
to make information available to the world via the World Wide Web.
Your Showcase space
is located on showcase.netINS.net (with FTP access through basic.netins.net).
The URL path to your
homepage will be:
http://showcase.netins.net/web/your_area_name/
Getting started
First, if you plan
to use Microsoft's FrontPage and/or Web Publishing Wizard, please
review these notes.
To upload files to
your Showcase account from a Windows or Windows 95 machine connected
through PPP, we recomment that you use WS_FTP Limited Edition (as
used in this example) or a similar FTP program. You may also need
to get a Zip/Unzip program.
Start up this program
and create a new session profile by clicking on the 'new' button.
Give the profile a name of "Showcase". Fill in the following information:
Host
Name: basic.netins.net
Host Type: Automatic Detect
User ID: Your netINS Username (part
of the email address befor the "@")
Password: Your Email Password
Save Password: Check this box if you don't think you can remember your password.

| When you have
completed this, click on "Save"...
and then click on "OK". You will be connected and should see two items under "Remote
System": |
..
.web |
Change into the .web
directory by double-clicking on .web. The path at the top right
corner of the window should change to show what directory you are
in.
The left half of the
screen will show your local hard drive. To upload files, first
locate the files you want to upload on your hard drive. Note that
double-clicking on ".." will take you up one directory level. The
path at the top left corner of the window will show you what directory
you are currently in. When you have located the files you want
to upload, select them and then click on the right-pointing arrow
in the center of your screen. This will transfer the files to your
Showcase account.

Warning -
ws_ftp.ini files contain passwords. Do not upload them into your
Showcase area. It makes it really easy for others to break into
your Showcase account.
If you are uploading
text files, such as HTML documents, you should upload them as ASCII
data. If you are uploading graphic files, such as GIF or JPEG images,
you should upload them as Binary. If you select "Auto" at the bottom
of the screen, it should handle this automatically.
VERY IMPORTANT
NOTE: Your "home page" must be called index.html and should
overwrite the existing index.html file that resides in your .web
directory. This will remove the "Already Registered" page that
is found when you look at your Showcase site.
Please note that your
Showcase files reside on a Unix system, and can not have spaces
in the file name. Also, file names are case sensitive. We suggest
using all lowercase letters for your file names, such as 'webpage.html'
to avoid confusion.
Where to Get Help:
The best place to
look for help with your Showcase is the Frequently
Asked Questions page.
The USENET newsgroup netins.svc.showcase is
the place to ask Showcase related questions.
